Outbreaks of several infectious diseases in Cuba have killed dozens and are reportedly overwhelming the island’s hospitals and mortuaries.
Cuba is confronting one of its most serious infectious disease crises in recent decades, driven by a surge in arboviral infections such as chikungunya, dengue, and Oropouche.
Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral disease that commonly causes fever and severe joint pain and can lead to prolonged disability, has been the most widespread and severe of the infections, with officials reporting more than 38 000 suspected cases.
