The sudden global energy crisis caused by Iran’s closure and control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil flowed, accelerated the company’s demise. Dave Davis, Spirit’s President and Chief Executive Officer, cited “the sudden and sustained rise in fuel prices in recent weeks” as the reason for the company’s closure.
